Our standard
We aim for guidance that is useful and checkable. That means:
- Official sources first. For rules and figures, we rely on official sources: card-issuer and bank terms and government pages. Where a guide depends on a specific consumer-credit rule, such as how grace periods work, it names the source, usually the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
- Showing our working. Calculations show every assumption, so you can check them and use your own numbers.
- Conservative values. We value points at what you could reliably get, and count credits only when they replace spending you’d make anyway.
- Labeling examples. Worked examples are labeled as illustrative unless they say otherwise. They show a method, not a real card’s current terms.
- No invented experience. We don’t make up personal stories, test results or credentials.
- Budget first. We never encourage borrowing or extra spending to earn rewards.
How guides are written
Guides are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools. The editor is responsible for what’s published, including its accuracy, its sources and any corrections.
Updates and corrections
Card terms, rewards programs and benefits change often. We update guides when we learn that a rule, figure or recommendation has changed, and we change a guide’s date only when its content has changed in a meaningful way. Always check the issuer’s current terms before acting.
Commercial relationships
Points Professor has no affiliate links, sponsored content or paid placements at the time of writing, and doesn’t receive payment from card issuers. If that changes, we will say so clearly beside the relevant link or recommendation, and update this page. Payment will never decide what we recommend without telling you.
General information only
Our guides are general education. They don’t replace an issuer’s official terms, or individual financial, tax or legal advice. If card debt is becoming hard to manage, consider speaking to a nonprofit credit counselor.
